I used to go here a lot when I was studying at Uni. I have eaten Idli my whole life, but I had chili idli for the first time here and it was love at first sight with it. They have a lot of amazing dishes but I think they are the best in preparing Indo-Chinese dishes that we all love and want more of.
This restaurant is located on Burwood Road and Glenferrie road corner. The interior and ambiance are nice and calm. It is very close to Swinburne uni so they have a lot of student customers and I think they have designed the menu keeping that in mind. The prices are not very high, you can get a plain Dosa for $5 which is really good. The staff is friendly and the service is quick.
Now let’s talk about food. I got chili idli, Paneer Manchurian, Gobi Manchurian, Schezwan chicken Noodles and a south Indian dish, Set Dosa, and a highly recommended bread with chili idli, Cheese Naan. Everything was fresh and hot. I was impressed by the flavor of Paneer Manchurian. The flavor was a mix of Indian spices with Chinese sauces and it is very close to the flavor that we get in India. Paneer (Cottage Cheese) was soft and tasted very nice. On the other hand, Gobi (Cauliflower) had a crispy outer coating, which gave the Manchurian a different feel. Cheese Naan was fresh and the cheese inside the naan was still melting. It was the best feeling to have the spicy and crispy gobi Manchurian with soft and cheesy naan.
One of the dishes that I was most impressed with was the Schezwan chicken noodles. The flavor and the texture of the noodles were great. It was spicy and was cooked to perfection. One thing that made it great was the addition of fried chicken which was cooked beautifully and was crispy on the outside and was soft on the inside. Imagine eating spicy, flavorful and soft noodles with spicy, crispy chicken in one bite, It is awesome.
Chili Idli is a dish that I have had most here and I still love it the most. Idli is a steamed cake made with rice batter. After it is prepared it is cooked in spices and sauces with sauteed vegetables to give it a really nice flavor. It is the combination of amazing flavor and interesting texture that made me like this dish l lot. It is a must-try at this restaurant.
As compared to other Indian restaurants in this area, I think dishes here are much spicier, and if you can’t handle a lot of spicy food you can tell the staff and they make sure that the food that you order is spicy to your liking. I have always recommended this place to anyone who likes Indian food and will continue to do so.
