I have always loved street food more than anything else. My favorite place to travel for food is Singapore because of the Hawker Centers. The Hawker centers have everything from drinks to Michelin starred food. Hawker Chan is one of them who has served tasty and inexpensive food for years. They have tried to create the same atmosphere in Melbourne by opening up Hawker Chan.
This is a self-service restaurant, where you order on the counter and then wait for your number to show up, pick up your food add sauces from the side table, take a seat and enjoy your meal. The seating area is huge. I like this setting as this is something different from all the other restaurants. The service is very quick. The order that I placed was ready in a couple of minutes.
I ordered a Bbq Chicken with noodles and spicy wonton soup. You can see your meal being prepared behind the glass window. Meat is cut fresh for every order. The portion size that you get in every dish is very small and if you eat a lot, like me, then you are better off getting two dishes.
I was served a piece of chicken breast on my plate with the noodles and that was probably the juiciest breast I have ever had. It was cooked really well. The soy sauce added a really nice flavor to a well-marinated chicken. The noodles were Singapore noodles which are very thin and have a very aldente texture.
I loved the spicy wonton soup. The wontons were cooked beautifully and had great texture. The filling of pork was delicious. The highlight of the dish was the spicy soup which had bits of peanuts and green onion in it. The flavor of the sauce was outstanding and that made the flavor of the whole dish stand out. Every bite of the wontons was a delight.
Overall I really liked the restaurant. But I feel that they should increase the quantity of the food served in one serving. Other than that I loved everything about this place. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone who wants to take a sneak peek into the food in Singapore.
