I wanted to try this place for a long time and I finally got a chance to go to HumBurger and it was a nice experience. It looks like a small restaurant from outside but there is more to this place when you go inside.
The restaurant is located on Glenferrie road and is very easy to get to. There is a room next to the entrance where you can sit on a big table or there is a laneway going to the back of the restaurant where you will find more seating. The menu was very small which I liked. There are six burgers in the menu and all named after different cities and each burger has an element that resembles the flavor of that city. I ordered a Melbournian ($11.5) and a Saigon ($10) with Fries ($4) and Herb Hollandaise ($2).
The Melbournian had a beef patty with tomato, onion, and lettuce with spicy mayo. I loved the patty in this burger. It was cooked perfectly and had an amazing flavor. The burger bun was very soft and fresh. The best thing about this burger was that every bite had a very nice balance of flavors. Juices were literally dripping from the beef patty. It was a very satisfying burger.
The Saigon was a surprise for me. The burger had Chicken, cucumber, lots of carrots, onions, and most important of all Nuoc Cham. It is the dipping sauce made with fish oil that you get with Vietnamese dishes. That sauce added so much of the Vietnamese flavor to the Burger. My first bite was a very pleasant surprise for me. I love Vietnamese flavors and to get it in a burger was just brilliant. The chicken was cooked beautifully and it was soft and juicy. The carrots added a nice crunchy texture to the burger. It was a very innovative burger.
The fries that I ordered were tasty and crispy but I think they should add some more varieties of fries on the menu. The staff was very nice and polite. I would definitely recommend this place for burger lovers and also if you would like to try some different flavors in a burger.
