I was invited to try the food at Shop 225 Pizzeria and I was very impressed with what they had to offer. They have a lot of really awesome dishes prepared the traditional way which I loved to try.
Shop 225 is located almost at the corner of Bell Street and Melville road. When I went there, tram works were going on and it was a bit hard to find a parking spot near the restaurant. The restaurant was pretty busy for a weekday night. They have indoor and outdoor seating available. The menu had a lot of options and on top of their regular menu, they have a weekly specials menu as well. I ordered A Modo Mio ($25) from the specials menu and Arancini ($15), 4 Formaggi Pizza ($24), A Modo Mio ($25), Spaghetti Carbonara ($21), Cassatta ($13), and a Tiramisu ($10) from their regular menu.
I got my pizza first and it was delicious. Formaggi means Cheese and “4 Formaggi” meant that there were 4 types of cheese in the Pizza, Fior di latte, smoked Scamorza, Gorgonzola, and Grana Padano. All the cheese created a very intense flavor. I loved each bite of this pizza. There were no other toppings on the pizza. The cheese was adding a lot of flavors as well as texture to the pizza. It was stringy and chewy and gave a very satisfying feeling. The pizza was cooked in the wood-fired oven so it had that smoky and charred flavor to it which was awesome.
I ordered A Modo Mio from the specials menu which was a spaghetti pasta with calamari and squid topped with Friarelli and bread Crumbs. This was one of the best Pasta that I’ve had. The pasta was cooked perfectly. It had just the right amount of chewiness to it. There was a generous amount of calamari and squid in the pasta which added a beautiful flavor to the pasta. There were Friarelli and bread crumbs added on top of the pasta which gave the pasta a little bit of crunch. It was a very light and tasty dish which I would love to have again.
The second pasta was Spaghetti Carbonara. They prepare carbonara traditionally, using eggs to bring the creaminess into the pasta. I had not had the carbonara this way before and I felt that it was a bit bitter. I felt that it was very creamy and that made the pasta very heavy.
For the deserts, I only ordered a Tiramisu but the host recommended that I should try their Cassata and I am glad that I did. They had the most beautiful looking cassata. It had Blueberries, Strawberries, Passion Fruit, Mango and more on the side of the delicious Ice cream. It was plated beautifully and tasted equally good. I think it was pistachio sauce added on top and it did wonders to the dish. The addition of the fruits made the cassata very refreshing.
I also got the Tiramisu and that was delicious as well. It was very very moist and just the right amount of sweet. Each and every bite of the tiramisu was a delight. It completely melted in my mouth and it was very satisfying.
I liked this place a lot. They had a lot of awesome things to offer, prepared in a traditional way which I don’t think you will find at many other places. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who would like to try out some really nice Italian food in Melbourne.
I would like to thank the management of Shop 225 pizzeria for inviting me to try their food. It was an awesome experience.
